Parenting Coordination & Parenting Faciliation
What Is Parenting Coordination?
If you're a parent navigating the challenges of co-parenting across separate households, you may find that parenting coordination and parenting facilitation can be valuable tools. These child-focused, problem-solving services are designed to help parents manage disputes and reduce conflicts that can affect their children. Parenting coordination and facilitation provide professional assistance for developing effective, workable parenting plans, especially for families struggling to do so independently.

Both services are often recommended or ordered by courts for high-conflict situations and are governed by the Texas Family Code, along with specific licensing requirements.
To become a parenting facilitator in Texas, professionals must complete 88 hours of extensive parenting and mediation training. This includes 16 hours dedicated to understanding the legal framework governing parenting coordination and facilitation, as well as various methods used to support families.

Parents participating in parenting coordination therapy will work toward several key learning objectives aimed at improving their ability to co-parent effectively and reduce conflict. These objectives include:

-
Gaining a clear understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a parenting coordinator and facilitator, and how these professionals support the co-parenting process.
-
Learning different approaches to parenting coordination and facilitation, including strategies that can be applied to manage disputes and communication challenges.
-
Developing a deeper understanding of co-parenting issues, particularly the unique needs of both parents and children in high-conflict situations.
-
Acquiring the skills necessary to create and implement workable parenting plans that meet the needs of the entire family.
-
Navigating the ethical considerations involved in co-parenting, with a focus on maintaining a child-centered approach to dispute resolution.

By engaging in parenting coordination therapy, parents will be better equipped to minimize conflict and create a healthier environment for their children.

Our certified Parent Coordination Specialist is Ragan Harrison.
